COGNITIVE AND BEHAVIORAL SERVICES
Psychological issues inevitably arise following acquired or traumatic brain injury and therefore become an important aspect of treatment planning. For this reason, cognitive and behavioral evaluation and therapy are available.
The psychological evaluatioon assesses the individual's cognitive abilities, behavior patterns, emotional and social functioning, community and family support and activity levels.
Therapy is then provided to help the individual set and work towards goals related to these areas.
Cognitive rehabilitation includes training those cognitive areas where deficits are observed, like attention, concentration, memory, problem solving, etc.
Behavior therapy includes teaching specific techniques like relaxation training, assertiveness training, anger management, social skills training, monitoring and treating anxiety and depression.
Also included are psychoeducation for the patient and family, pre-vocational and vocational counseling, dance and movement therapy, and periodic psychological assessments.
This process strongly encourages the patient to become a partner, taking an active role in his or her treatment and progress.

NEUROFEEDBACK
Neurofeedback is a non-evasive procedure used to record electrical waves in the brain and provide feed back. This innovative computer-driven therapy provides new clues to the mind’s role in sickness and health.
The technique is a safe, drug-free alternative for the treatment of many diagnosed conditions or multi-needs such as stress, depression, sleep disturbances, brain injuries, hyperactivity, and more.
(Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback, December, 2002/Psychiatric Times, February, 2002)
With successful neurofeedback training, the brain takes over the role of regulating itself.
